The Munich Fashion Award honors European emergent fashion and accessory designers with sustainable concepts, makes technological sustainability solutions more visible and provides the winners access to these solutions in order to contribute to a more sustainable and fair fashion system.

The Munich Fashion Award particularly honors fashion collections and accessories that balance aesthetics and sustainability in a seamless, market-appealing way.

The 1st edition of the Munich Fashion Award will take place with a Red-Carpet-Event, Exposition and a Conference, on 15th & 16th of May 2025 in Munich.

How does the competition work?

The jury will assess your application in three categories.

1. DESIGN AESTHETIC

Max. 60 points – Creative and aesthetic qualities of your designs.

2. ECOLOGICAL & SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY

Max. 60 points – 10 points in each of the following dimensions:

Max. 20 points – 10 points in each of the following dimensions:

The five candidates with the highest total score will be invited to Munich. In Munich, the finalists will meet the jury directly to convince them of their collections, products and collection concepts. A fashion show on the evening of 15 May as part of the Red Carpet Event with Award Ceremony will also be included in the jury’s decision. The final judgement of the jury will therefore be made both at the walk-through during the exhibition and at the fashion show.

Who can apply?

The Munich Fashion Award addresses emergent fashion and accessory designers

  • with collections and products that balance aesthetic appeal with sustainability in a seamless, market-appealing way
  • with minimum 2 and maximum 10 years market experience
  • who are based in Europe (member states of the European Council and Kosovo)
  • Application start:
    • Friday, 10th January 2025 at 12:00:00 noon CET
  • Application deadline:
    • Sunday, 23rd February 2025 at 11:59:59 p.m. CET
    • Applications must be submitted by this deadline. After this deadline, no applications will be accepted by the competition tool.
  • Announcement shortlist:
    • Monday, 31st March 2025 at 12:00:00 noon CET

The Munich Fashion Award is organized by the City of Munich and includes two aesthetic award categories: Fashion and Accessories.

CASH

The 3 winners of the FASHION category will receive the following prize money:

  • 1st place:         25.000 EUR
  • 2nd place:        10.000 EUR
  • 3rd place:         5.000 EUR

The 3 winners of the ACCESSORIES category will receive the following prize money:

  • 1st place:         10.000 EUR
  • 2nd place:        5.000 EUR
  • 3rd place:         3.000 EUR

 

VISIBILITY: FASHIONSHOW/EXPOSITION

In addition to the monetary prizes, the five fashion finalists will show their collection (min. 15 looks / max. 20 looks) in front of an invited audience at a fashion show during a Red Carpet Event including the award ceremony on May 15th, 2025 in Munich. The products of the five finalists in the accessory category will be showcased at the on-site exhibition.

PROFESSIONALIZATION / NETWORK

We help scaling up: In addition, there will be in-kind prizes (including masterclasses, network, conference), which the city of Munich is putting together with the partners of the MFA.
